BlueCity is a model city for the circular and blue economy and home to 55 entrepreneurs and a meeting place for pioneers and enterprising minds, where they develop a framework for action, whether to grow their impact, live a zero waste life, or develop a future-proof material. It is located in a former tropical swimming paradise on the river Maas in Rotterdam. One of the innovative start-up entrepreneurs at BlueCity is BlueBlocks, run by founder Marjanne Cuypers (photo). BlueBlocks develops viable solutions that serve both people and planet, based on material research, circular design strategies and local collaborations. They do this together with partners to form new sustainable eco-systems. Marjanne develops SeaWood from her workshop in BlueCity: a sustainable alternative to sheet material made from brown seaweed from the North Sea.
