This week, Rotterdam is the placemaking capital of Europe.
After all, working together on places in the city that need extra attention — placemaking — is what we do best.
In Rotterdam, we sell shirts with rolled-up sleeves for a reason. We’re celebrating this with a full week of events.
From all over the world, placemakers have come here to draw inspiration during the sold-out Placemaking Week Europe. In addition, the Municipality of Rotterdam has presented nine promises to the city, laid out in a manifesto that makes placemaking more accessible and transparent.
And to top it off, everyone is invited to roll up their sleeves and join in through the City Programme.
Placemaking Week Europe
From the Keilepand in M4H, more than 500 city makers are exploring Rotterdam — visiting true placemaking gems such as HBS: New Lab, Roodkapje, Independent School for the City, OASE, Het Gemaal op Zuid, Hillevliet, and Katoenhuis.
The Manifesto
The Municipality of Rotterdam has examined what it can do to help create more spaces like these.
The outcome is captured in a manifesto that outlines how the city will make placemaking accessible and transparent. Got a good idea? You can take it to the Initiatives Desk (Initiatievenloket).
No idea yet? Then get inspired through the City Programme.
City Programme
Placemaking Week Europe is completely sold out — but fortunately, there’s also the City Programme.
It offers a range of events throughout the week that are (almost) free to attend.
