De collectie van Museum Rotterdam omvat meer dan 110.000 objecten die het verleden, heden en de toekomst van de stad weerspiegelen. Van gevelstenen en beeldhouwwerken tot schilderijen, kleding en iconische voorwerpen zoals het bureau van Pim Fortuyn en het poppenhuis van de gebroeders Bisschop: elk object vertelt een verhaal over de stad en haar inwoners. Deze verzameling raakt bovendien aan thema’s die ons allemaal bezighouden, zoals bijvoorbeeld innovaties, duurzaamheid, een superdiverse stad, armoede, woningnood, het koloniaal verleden en de constante verandering die Rotterdam kenmerkt.

Currently, Museum Rotterdam ‘40–’45 NOW, located at Coolhaven, is the museum’s only public and educational site.
Here, the focus lies on the Second World War and the bombing of May 1940.
At the same time, the museum works to maintain a strong presence in the city — through object loans, educational programs, lectures, city walks, and temporary exhibitions.

Museum Rotterdam is now actively developing a new city museum — a place where Rotterdam’s heritage will be preserved, shared, and brought to life, inspiring and connecting people.
Together with the Municipality of Rotterdam, the museum is seeking a permanent location to establish this new home for the city’s history.
