Trompenburg Gardens & Arboretum is a beautiful botanical garden featuring an extensive collection of trees, shrubs, perennials, bulbs, and tubers.
Located on the edge of Rotterdam’s city center, in the Kralingen district, the garden spans 8 hectares — a true haven for peace seekers and nature lovers from both inside and outside the city.
The garden is remarkably diverse: you’ll find traditional English-style gardens, a modern food forest in development, and a photogenic desert greenhouse.
Trompenburg plays an important role in biodiversity and natural heritage, and has been a registered museum for several years.
A Rich History
Trompenburg’s origins go back about 200 years, when the area was still marshland.
Initially a private estate, it became a foundation in 1958 to ensure its preservation for future generations.
Today, Trompenburg Gardens & Arboretum is known as Rotterdam’s green museum — a place where culture and nature meet. It serves both as a knowledge center for green professionals and city residents, and as a recreational park where visitors can spend time enjoying the lush botanical surroundings.
