Rotterdam shines bright. After the spectaculair drone show at the Erasmusbrug, the city finds itself in the spotlight again during the Rotterdam Verlicht festival. From December 2020 to February 2021, every day, from dusk until 11 pm hotspots throughout the city are cast in shining lights. So go out at quiet times and explore the various highlights of the city on foot.
Streets, squares and buildings are decorated with lights, making iconic buildings stand out even more. One that must have caught your attention is the Laurenskerk. It’s rotating beams illuminate the port city like a lighthouse. Squares also got a makeover. Heemraadsplein was illuminated in bright green because of its rich historic connection to the original inhabitants of Cabo Verde.
Light connects and brings hope. Especially in these turbulent times and during dark winter days. To quote the famous philosopher and humanist Desiderius Erasmus of Rotterdam: “Give light, and the darkness will disappear of itself.”
