RET aims to provide easy, reliable and comfortable public transport every day for residents and visitors of Rotterdam and the surrounding region, contributing to a vibrant, clean and growing Rotterdam region. This is why we describe ourselves as Aardig Onderweg—a mindset that reflects our commitment to being considerate, approachable and continuously on the move. We constantly challenge ourselves to raise the bar, always striving to do things just a little bit better for our passengers.

A Social Connector

As a public service company, RET is not only a logistical provider, but above all a social connector. For nearly 150 years, we have been deeply rooted in Rotterdam and its surrounding areas. This connection is reflected in our active collaboration with other organisations across the city and is one of the reasons we are a partner of Rotterdam Make It Happen.

RET as an Extension Cord for Rotterdam

RET operates an extensive power grid to supply electricity to its metro system. At certain times—such as off-peak hours and during the night—there is surplus capacity available on this network. RET makes this capacity available to the city of Rotterdam, helping to relieve pressure on the electricity grid. Together with its partners, RET has launched a unique pilot project that is already attracting interest from other transport operators and European cities. This initiative demonstrates how RET actively collaborates with the city and delivers innovative solutions.

Anticipating the Future

In recruiting new employees, RET strives for diversity in gender, ethnicity and age. This ambition goes hand in hand with anticipating future challenges. In collaboration with Zadkine College, RET has developed a specialised training programme with paid work-study placements for maintenance technicians.

A large proportion of maintenance staff will retire in the coming years, while new trams, buses and metro vehicles require increasingly specialised maintenance. Combined with ongoing urbanisation, this means RET is continuously working on building the public transport network of the future.
