Rif010, ‘s werelds eerste kunstmatige stedelijke surfpool

Rif010, ‘s werelds eerste kunstmatige stedelijke surfpool

In the summer of 2024 (July 6), Rif010 opened in the heart of Rotterdam during the Rotterdam Surf Open: a world first! The surf pool is located at Steigersgracht and extends over 125 meters long and 25 meters wide. Perfect waves of up to 1.5 meters are generated from the wave installation, which then roll towards the Wezenbrug and come to rest on the pebble beach. An artificial reef ensures that the waves break naturally. At the end of the wave pool a softer wave is created, ideal for beginners who want to discover the sport. RiF010 uses 100% sustainably generated energy to generate the waves and in the beach house. In addition to surfing, canoes or stand-up paddleboards can be rented at RiF010. You can enjoy a drink on the terrace.

Cascade – Coolsingel Rotterdam

Cascade – Coolsingel Rotterdam

In 2008 Sculpture International Rotterdam asked Atelier Van Lieshout to develop a work of art for the heart of the city. The eight meter high sculpture Cascade is the result. The statue is made of polyester; the material that can almost be seen as a signature of Atelier Van Lieshout. Eighteen oil barrels stacked on top of each other, which seem to fall from the sky like a waterfall, together form a monumental column. A viscous mass drips from the life-size vessels, in which the figures of twenty human figures can be discerned.

L’Âge d’Or -Holland Amerikaplein

On 20 June 2021, World Refugee Day, Mayor Aboutaleb unveiled a new work of art by British artist Gavin Turk at the head of the Wilhelminapier. The artwork is a more than 3,5 meters high open door of green and red painted bronze. The door has a door handle and keyhole, also cast in bronze. L'Âge d'Or, as the work of art is called, is given to the municipality of Rotterdam on a long-term loan. L'Âge d'Or symbolizes hopes, dreams and opportunities as a door that is always open. A door without a building, but as a symbolic transition between two imaginary worlds, an old and a new one. L'Âge d'Or is the sixth in a unique series of eight works of art, in which all doors have a different colour, shape and handle.
