Innovative cluster

The historic shipyard of the Rotterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij (RDM) has been transformed into a dynamic innovation hub. Located in the heart of the port yet surprisingly close to the city, technical education, researchers, and businesses collaborate here to shape the new manufacturing industry that defines the future of both port and city.

RDM Rotterdam, part of the Port of Rotterdam Authority, together with partners Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences and Techniek College Rotterdam, serves as a cradle for innovative solutions. This is where ideas for the energy transition, circular economy, and new mobility are not only conceived, but also tested and put into practice.

Inspiring, authentic atmosphere

A wide range of companies, from start-ups to global players in the maritime and offshore industries, have established themselves at RDM. Here they develop, produce, test, and showcase prototypes and new products. The inspiring, authentic atmosphere of this historic site provides the perfect setting to achieve great things.

Cross-pollination between the various companies and between students, lecturers, and researchers from Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences and Techniek College Rotterdam contributes to RDM’s success. This is further strengthened by the presence of advanced testing facilities and field labs, including a hydraulic engineering laboratory.

A diverse program of events and conferences in the Submarine Wharf complements RDM’s innovative character. Successful companies such as Ampelmann, X-Laboratory, and zepp.solutions are working on pioneering solutions for the smart port of the future, and there is room for more trailblazers.
