Moments Contained, beeld voor Centraal Station

Moments Contained, beeld voor Centraal Station

Moments Contained, an almost 4 meter high bronze sculpture of a young, fictional, colored woman in sneakers, hands clenched in the pockets of her tracksuit. With an appearance of resilience, self-confidence and vulnerability. The statue is located on Stationsplein, directly in front of Central Station. The woman does not stand on a pedestal, but with both feet on the ground. The sculpture was made by the English artist Thomas J Price and was donated to the city of Rotterdam by the Droom en Daad Foundation. It is part of the International Sculpture Collection of Rotterdam. The statue was unveiled early June 2023. In the photo we can clearly see the size of the statue because of the people walking around it.

Santa Claus – Oude Binnenweg

Santa Claus – Oude Binnenweg

Santa Claus is a 2001 statue by Paul McCarthy in the Eendrachtsplein square of Rotterdam. Artist Paul McCarthy knows better than anyone how to depict the hypocrisy of modern society. Santa Claus is therefore an ironic critique of consumer society. It is a critical note that fits into McCarthy's oeuvre. Due to his design he combines 'high' with 'low' culture. The sculpture would be placed on the corner of the Kruiskade and the Karel Doormanstraat near concert hall De Doelen. In November 2008, Santa Claus finally got its permanent place on the Eendrachtsplein. The statue has become a well-known Rotterdam symbol.

Cascade – Coolsingel Rotterdam

Cascade – Coolsingel Rotterdam

In 2008 Sculpture International Rotterdam asked Atelier Van Lieshout to develop a work of art for the heart of the city. The eight meter high sculpture Cascade is the result. The statue is made of polyester; the material that can almost be seen as a signature of Atelier Van Lieshout. Eighteen oil barrels stacked on top of each other, which seem to fall from the sky like a waterfall, together form a monumental column. A viscous mass drips from the life-size vessels, in which the figures of twenty human figures can be discerned.
