Nurses across the country are under enormous pressure because of the COVID19 (corona) situation. Almost every healthcare employee is directly or indirectly involved with COVID19. Healthcare personnel from other disciplines are assisting with the provision of healthcare to COVID19 patients. But how can you train them in the assessment and nursing of a COVIOD19 patient as quickly and efficiently as possible? Erasmus MC developed a special app with Virtual Reality instruction videos for all nurses in the Netherlands. If you are curious about the videos and what the training involves, you can watch the instruction videos online.
Like the script from a Hollywood movie
A new virus which is rapidly spreading and causing large numbers of victims worldwide. It reads like a script from a Hollywood movie. But as we now know, this is, unfortunately, today’s reality, and the COVID19 virus is also very active in the Netherlands. The entire healthcare system is in a unique situation. Intensive care units and nurses are heavily burdened, emergency medical facilities have been set up, and people from other (care) disciplines are offering assistance and help where they can.
Erasmus MC plays a central role
All of this must be well coordinated. This applies to the placement of patients in healthcare institutions throughout the country, and to the deployment of healthcare employees and, of course, their training. Rotterdam's Erasmus MC has a central, leading position in this.
Special VR app and instruction videos
Erasmus MC developed two Virtual Reality instruction videos in close collaboration with the
Rotterdam Municipality, section
Life Sciences & Health 010,
VR Gorilla,
philogirl and
Cardboards.nl, especially to train people from other disciplines who are assisting with the care of COVID19 patients. The partners worked on the videos free of charge.
