Vibrant city

The story of our city is something you experience by taking part.

Rotterdam is a city full of life. A city where people meet, every day, on the streets, by the water, at attractions and during events. A welcoming city where there is always something happening. A safe and clean city where colours, voices and flavours come together, giving Rotterdam its own distinctive rhythm. Bold, honest and open – you feel it as soon as you arrive.

That did not happen by itself. Shaped by a history of reconstruction and renewal, Rotterdam has learned to think in terms of possibilities. The city is a testing ground where we move forward together by thinking and acting beyond the conventional. This is how we build a strong, green and accessible city, with space to live, play and dream.

A vibrant city comes to life when people take part. You see it at events, in museums and in neighbourhoods where residents, makers and students meet. That diversity inspires, sometimes challenges and often surprises. Rotterdam invites you to listen to its stories, discover new flavours and experience what makes the city unique. Because in Rotterdam, you do not simply experience the city – you become part of it.

Rotterdam is alive and evolving every day. A clean, safe and accessible city provides the foundation for everyone who works, studies, relaxes and plays sports here. Rotterdam invites you to look, listen, taste and experience. We want that experience to be accessible to everyone, so the city can continue to show what it is all about: welcoming, surprising and vibrant.
